Summer Lovin' Blog Hop with Therm O Web & Die Cuts With a View!

Hello & welcome to the Summer Lovin' Blog Hop!  For the next 2 weeks from (May 20th to May 31st), Therm O Web and DCWV are teaming up to share our summer inspired projects using DCWV Paper Stacks and Therm O Web adhesives.  :)

If you have arrived here from Amanda's blog {Old Enough To Be a Kid}, then you're right on track with the hop!  If not, stop by either the Therm O Web or DCWV blog to find the beginning.  :)  Be sure to visit all the blogs and leave a comment on each one for your chance to win!  More details about that at the end of this post...

First, let me share the project I made using DCWV Sunday Afternoon Paper Stack..............

I decided to get a head start on a mini album for this summer.  It will be a little easier to have some pre-made pages where I can just add photos and journaling when I’m ready.  Aside from all the fantastic patterns in the Sunday Afternoon stack, there’s a cut-out sheet and word/phrase sheet that really made it easy to embellish each page.  And, of course, I used an assortment of Therm O Web’s adhesives – iCraft Adhesive Tape to secure my finished pages to the chipboard pieces; 3D Zots to add just a bit of dimension to my embellishments; and even Glitter Dust Spray (one of my favorite products) to add a bit of sparkle to accent pieces.
A Wonderful Summer {mini album}

Therm O Web Supplies:
Therm O Web Mini Runner – Sticky Dot (green)
Therm O Web Zots - Small
Therm O Web Zots - Medium
Therm O Web Zots – 3D
Therm O Web Glitter Dust – Gold
Therm O Web Glitter Dust – Silver
Therm O Web iCraft Adhesive Tape ¼”
Therm O Web Vellum Adhesive Runner
Therm O Web Sticky Dots Diecut Adhesive Sheets

Other Supplies:
DCWV Sunday Afternoon Paper Stack
DCWV Letterpress (for the orange sun)
chipboard, hemp, mini brads, paper doily, staples

Instructions:
Start with cutting thin chipboard pieces to the page size of the mini album.  This mini is 4”x6”, but any size – depending on the photo size you plan to use – is fine.  Cut patterned paper or cardstock (mixed or matched 2 page spread) for front and back of each piece of chipboard, including pieces for front and back cover.  Cut the Sunday Afternoon Cut-Out paper and the word/phrase paper and set them aside to pick and choose from later.  Grab a Therm O Web Mini Runner and assorted Zots to adhere it all together.
Design layouts with blocks of pattern paper for photo matting and journaling along with the Cut-Out images and words/phrases.  Keep in mind where the binder ring holes will be for the mini album – avoid adding too much embellishment in that area.  Create paper ribbons and paper “washi” tape from strips of pattern paper.  Cut out other shapes from the paper stack (like the cloud) to use as additional accents and apply 3D Zots on the back to add just a bit of dimension.
Use cut out words from the crossword pattern paper.  Punch/die cut a small circle and adhere to each page to use to the record the date.

To create the sun on the left page: cut out concentric sized circles, distress the edges with a craft knife (be careful!) or other paper distressing tool and spray with Therm O Web Gold Glitter Dust.  Let dry thoroughly and adhere together.  Next, adhere the circle with iCraft Adhesive Tape to the top left corner of the page.  Trim off the excess that hangs over the page.  Cut out small rectangles, spray with Gold Glitter Dust and adhere around the sun.

TIP:  Add a little bit of Mini Runner Adhesive to the back of each paper strip before spraying.  Since these pieces are small, they tend to blow away as the spray is applied.  Adding a touch of adhesive to the back and pressing them to the surface used to spray (old piece of cardstock or cardboard spray box) prevents the pieces from scattering and becoming a mess.

The waves and splashes were created with several punches that were layered together with Small Zots.  Then 3D Zots were used to adhere them to the page and give them some dimension.  If the punches/shapes are small, cut Zots in half or to the sized neede while the protective plastic sheets are still together.

Use the Gold Glitter Dust on more accents, like the wood grain heart.  Therm O Web’s Vellum Adhesive Runner won’t show through on the vellum square used here as a photo mat.

Create more pages adhering words and cut-out images to embellish the pages.

Create a Fourth of July themed page from the same stack of pattern paper.  Punch/die-cut stars and spray them with Silver Glitter Dust for sparkle.
Use Therm O Web Sticky Dot Adhesive Sheets to apply adhesive easily to the back of small die-cuts and punches.  Simply place the shapes on the sheet with light pressure and peel off.
Use shapes to create tabs at the top or side of the page – “play”
Explore is the last layout of this mini album for now.  Once you have a good head start on your summer mini album with several pages created, begin adhering them to the chipboard pieces with iCraft Adhesive Tape.
The tape is easy to tear and creates a strong hold to prevent pages from peeling/curling off the chipboard.  Use small pieces to cover up staples or mini brad prongs.

To complete the mini, I created the front and back cover last.  You can do this at any time, but I prefer to save it for the end.
Create another sun for the front cover – spraying the pieces with Gold Glitter Dust.  Add a title and other embellished accents
Adhere these to the chipboard as well using iCraft Adhesive Tape.

Once all the pages are complete, punch the binder ring holes.  A ¼” circle hand punch was used for most of the pages of this mini album as the pages weren’t too thick.  For the cover, punch the holes in layers as you create it.  Add binder rings and tie ribbon to them to finish.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this mini album tutorial!  More pages can be added as needed, but it’s great to have it set up where photos and journaling can simply be added over the weeks to come this summer without too much fuss.

*This mini album will also be posted on the Therm O Web Blog later this week.*

hey there...

Today's post is short & sweet!  It was a lovely Mother's Day weekend and when I had a little time to create, I found a fun sketch challenge over at Cardabilities and made this card:

Here's the sketch by Karen Gerber: Cardabilities - Sketch #74

I switched it up a bit and turned the sketch on its side for my version.  I mixed quite a few patterns together :) using papers from both Pebbles, Inc. and American Craft to create the banners and circles...lots of layers & "stuff" on this card.

Notes on the card: I made the "ticket" myself using stamps and a hole punch at the corners.  The daisy is 3 layered flower punches with a button in the center.  The sentiment was white embossed on kraft cardstock.  And the butterfly is a layered punch of pattern paper and vellum, then clipped to the sentiment banner with a mini clothespin.

Supplies:
Therm O Web Adhesives - Zots (Small, Medium & 3D) and Mini Dot Runner
Pebbles - Seen & Noted (Everyday, You and Me, Favorites); Walnut Grove (Cassandra, Nancy, Nellie); Sunnyside (Zippy)
American Crafts -SOHO Gardens (Greenwich Village); 5th & Frolic (24th & Sparrow); Amy Tangerine-Ready Set Go (Think Good Thoughts); Sketchbook (Viridium Vintage); Dear Lizzy Buttons
Simple Stories - Yellow Dot from SN@P!
kraft cardstock
stamps: Paper Smooches, Bo Bunny & Fiskars
white embossing powder, Versamark Ink, hemp, mini brads, mini clothespin; 7 Gypsies arrow phototurn; Jewels (red) & yellow button- Bo Bunny

More for Mother's Day...

If you're still asking yourself what mom might want this Mother's Day, here's a last minute card and project that I'd like to share with you...

Mother's Day Card, Bookmark & Pillow Box Gift Card Holder

Therm O Web Supplies:
Therm O Web Mini Runner – Sticky Tap
Therm O Web Supertape ½”
Therm O Web Zots - Small
Therm O Web Zots - Medium
Therm O Web Zots – 3D
Therm O Web Glitter Dust – Iridescent
Therm O Web iCraft Adhesive Tape ¼”
Therm O Web 3D Adhesive Foam Combo Squares - White
Other Supplies:
Simple Stories - Vintage Bliss collection
cardstock (light gray), hemp, decorative pins, buttons, vellum, paper doily, mini clothespin, white flocking (gStudio)

This set might be just the thing for mom if she's an avid reader and would love nothing more than a gift card to her favorite bookstore.  Simple Stories' Vintage Bliss collection is gorgeous and the assorted Therm O Web adhesives I used to create this set made putting it together a snap.

I layered a paper doily (folded in half) just behind the circle accent on the card.  The sticker and top layer of the vellum butterfly are sprayed with Therm O Web's Iridescent Glitter Dust (LOVE this stuff!) for a bit of sparkle.

TIP: To remove the stickiness from the flower and word stickers, I dusted the backs with baby powder before spraying them with Glitter Dust.  Not necessary, but makes them a little easier to work with.  :)

The Vintage Bliss Cut-Outs were perfect for giving this bookmark detail without too much bulk.  If mom is not an avid reader, no worries....simply make a tag instead and add whatever gift card(s) you think she'd enjoy most.
I created a pillow box from light gray cardstock - Therm O Web's SuperTape is AWESOME for this...the long side tab will hold strong!  Then  I wrapped a strip of pattern paper around the center and tied on a small embellished tag.
Here's the bookmark tied to the pillow box.  Fill the pillow box as you wish and if she has a sweet tooth, add a few of her favorite chocolates too!

That's it!  Super easy, yet it still adds a creative and personal touch to mom's gift.  For a detailed step by step tutorial, visit the Therm O Web Blog.  Stop by for even more inspiration to see the gorgeous projects the other TOW designers have created with Simple Stories' Vintage Bliss collection this week.

Thanks for visiting & Happy Mother's Day!

Celebrating Mother's Day...

Here's to moms everywhere!  And in honor of Mother's Day this coming weekend, I have a couple of projects to post this week.  Today, I have a pretty little embellished frame and card...

I used Authentique's Grace collection - gorgeous, soft colors that are perfect for Mother's Day.  The wooden craft frame was coated with a bit of watered down acrylic paint, distressed and inked a bit.  The flowers are cut out from patterned paper and the card was created with a similar design.  You can find the detailed instructions on the Therm O Web Blog :)

I liked the quote since it's one that isn't Mother's Day specific, so the frame can be year round decor - after all it's Mother's Day everyday, right?  But if you're not fond of using a quote like this, add a photo instead.  Mom is sure to love it either way!
I cut out multiple flowers and layered the pieces with 3D Zots - these are especially great when you want just a little bit of dimension as they're not as thick as the Adhesive Foam Squares.

Therm O Web Supplies:
Mini Runner – Sticky Dot; Zots - Medium; Zots – 3D; 3D Adhesive Foam – Squares
Other Supplies:
Authentique: Grace Collection of pattern papers; Grace Noteables (die-cuts)
Craft wood frame (AC Moore), acrylic paint (cream, white), ribbon, hemp, button, clear acrylic spray

I hope I've inspired you to make it handmade this year!  Mom will love your thoughtfulness and appreciate your creativity. ♥

Happy {National Scrapbook Day}!!

What better way to segue back into blogging than to jump back in on National Scrapbook Day!  I'm long overdue to return from my blogging hiatus and with spring in the air it feels like a fresh start is in order.  :)

It's been awhile since I've shared a layout here and I'll admit since I've actually made one....yikes!  I know.  I've been mostly creating cards and other paper projects as of late....BUT this morning I thought I'd grab a couple of older photos that I have of my girl and create a cute layout.  It's still a work in progress, but here's a peek............

She's not quite 3 years old in these spring photos.  I can't get over that sweet little face and how curly (and blond!!) her locks were then.....*sigh*  Hard to believe she'll be graduating high school next year!!

Here's my very basic sketch in case you need a little inspiration today:

Well, we are off to have some family fun this afternoon but I'll be back later to post the finished layout and a list of supplies........

Winter Wedding CHA projects...

Hey there! I've been crazy busy lately creating projects for Therm O Web's booth at the CHA Winter 2013 show out in Anaheim, California - it runs Jan 12th through the 15th.  If you're already at the show, I hope you'll stop by their booth - #1737  My friend, Julia Sandvoss will be there doing make 'n takes and telling you all about Therm O Web's wonderful products.  :)  She's awesome so be sure to say "Hi!".  If you aren't attending the show, the Therm O Web blog is already featuring some of our teams' projects this week and will show you even more all next week...the theme is Winter Weddings.  I loved creating for this theme and color scheme...snowflakes and glitter everywhere!  And I mean e v e r y w h e r e...on me, all over my office and in just about every room of our house...lol.

Here's a peek at a few of my projects.......you can see more next week on the Therm O Web Blog.  Stop by there every day to see something new.

This is my take on a clever idea that I wish was around when I got married.  I'm not sure who came up with it first, but they are genius!  It's my absolute favorite project that I made.  I used TOW adhesives to wrap the boxes, layer and adhere the flowers and to attach all the embellishments.  The flowers, flourishes, snowflakes and label shape are all from Sizzix Dies.

A similar flower for this accessory project, but instead of specialty papers and vellum, I used fabric from a recycled blouse and sprayed it with Therm O Web's Glitter Dust {I LOVE this stuff!}  The Glitter Dust not only added sparkle, but sealed the edges so the fabric won't fray.

This card features Silver Glitter Dust sprayed on black cardstock, a punched heart using iCraft Adhesive Sheets, Small Zots applied to brads to add glitter and one of Therm O Web's NEW products, Glitter Photo Corners.

Here's another card showing Glitter Dust on both the cardstock and pattern paper; iCraft Adhesive to die cut the silver snowflake and punch the heart; Zots to attach the embellishments; the Black Glitter Photo Corners (they also come in silver, gold and hot pink!) AND Supertape to create the glittered lines just below the snowflakes.

I hope you enjoyed the projects...remember, you can see more on the Therm O Web Blog.  Thanks for visiting here with me & enjoy the weekend!

Santa Claus is coming to town...

...with these paper triangle gift boxes.  Finding just the right wrapping or packaging for holiday gifts can be a challenge at this time of year.  I'm not the supreme and determined wrapper that my husband is, BUT I do like to wrap things prettily, especially things that come in small packages.  And these little boxes are perfect for just that and can be sized to fit gift cards, small gifts/jewelry as well as candy/edible treats and other assorted things.  Hang them on a tree, create an advent project with them or tie them to a wine bottle as an added personal touch for the holiday hostess this season.

This Old World Santa is one version of my take on this clever idea.......

Note:  His mustache is from a kiss shaped punch.  I added pen work doodles on the mustache and beard for added detail.  And I used circle punches on shimmery gold specialty cardstock for the belt buckle.

I love the simple folding design that makes this box so easy to make yet it's so versatile that you can decorate it in many different ways....tree, hat or themed character, like these Santas.

Here's another earlier version of a Santa that I made for the Therm O Web Blog...

It's a bit simpler (and quicker to make!) with a few less details but still cute.... and perfect for little hands to make too.

I plan to make New Year's Eve party hats soon for our little at home celebration...maybe fill them with confetti and fun surprises?  Will post and let you know when I do!  :)

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!  Happy crafting too!

Felt Christmas Ornaments

Made these super easy felt friends from regular craft felt and embellished them with buttons, ribbon, beads and a bit of hand stitching.  They're really cute and something you can make yourself or have the kids do on a chilly day.

Instructions:
1.  Create/draw or find a template shape to use.  Size the shape to about 5-6 inches.  Create a cardboard or chipboard template and use that to trace onto the back of your felt - cut 2.
2.  Embellish the front piece of felt with stitching, beads, buttons, bows, etc.  The snowman's hat is just a bit of an outgrown striped tee my daughter donated to my scrap fabric pile.  Great fabric for this kind of project as it doesn't fray and you can do all sorts of embellishments with it.... like a scarf too.
3. Then layer the 2 pieces together, tuck a length of ribbon between the layers at the top and machine/hand stitch around the edge to complete.

That's it!  Easy peasy & something  you can do while watching those holiday movies this season.  Enjoy!
